Date: 18 August 2024 => Action: Portable batteries, whether or not incorporated into appliances, shall not contain more than 0.01% of lead (expressed as lead metal) by weight. The restriction set out in point 1 shall not apply to portable zinc-air button cells until 18 August 2028

Date: 18 August 2024 => Action: Conformity assessment procedures "Module A" and (obligations to economic operators except waste management and due diligence obligations) shall apply, except for Module D1 and Module G, which applies from 4th July 2025

Date: 18 August 2024 => Action: Obligation to apply award criteria for procurement procedures

Date: 18 August 2024 => Action: Rechargeable industrial batteries with a capacity greater than 2 kWh, LMT batteries, and electric vehicle batteries shall be accompanied by a document containing values for the electrochemical performance and durability parameters. That shall contain an explanation of the technical specifications, standards, and conditions used to measure, calculate or estimate the values for the electrochemical performance and durability parameters.

Date: 18 February 2025 => Action: The carbon footprint declaration shall apply for Electric vehicle batteries

Date: 18 August 2025 => Action: Economic operators that place batteries on the market or put them into service shall fulfill the due diligence obligation

Date: 18 February 2025 => Action: Commission to adopt a delegated act to establish the methodology for calculation and verification of rates for recycling efficiency

Date: 18 August 2025 => Action: Directive 2006/66/EC is repealed

Date: 18 August 2025 => Action: Management of waste batteries

Date: 18 August 2025 => Action: All batteries shall be marked with the symbol for separate collection of batteries (‘separate collection symbol’) as shown in Part B of Annex VI.

Date: 18 August 2027 => Action: Rechargeable industrial batteries with a capacity greater than 2 kWh, except those with exclusively external storage, shall meet the minimum values laid down in the delegated act adopted for the electrochemical performance and durability parameters set out in Part A of Annex IV.

Date: 18 August 2027 => Action: Apply carbon footprint performance class requirements for rechargeable industrial batteries except those with exclusively external storage

Date: 18 August 2028 => Action: The restriction of lead in Portable batteries shall apply to portable zinc-air button cells

Date: 18 August 2028 => Action: Ensure portable batteries of general use excluding button cells meet the minimum values for electrochemical performance and durability parameters set out in Annex III

Date: 18 August 2028 => Action: The carbon footprint declaration shall apply for LMT batteries

Date: 18 August 2028 => Action: LMT batteries shall meet the minimum values laid down in the delegated act adopted pursuant to the second subparagraph of paragraph 5 for the electrochemical performance and durability parameters set out in Part A of Annex IV

Date: 18 August 2031 => Action: Ensure industrial batteries (>2 kWh, excluding external storage only), electric vehicle batteries, and SLI batteries containing cobalt, lead, lithium, or nickel meet the following minimum recycled content: 16% cobalt, 85% lead, 6% lithium, and 6% nickel

Date: 18 February 2032 => Action: Apply carbon footprint performance class requirements for rechargeable industrial batteries with external storage

Date: 18 August 2033 => Action: Apply a maximum life cycle carbon footprint threshold for rechargeable industrial batteries with external storage
