What the Workshop Will Cover

The first part of the training focuses on European Union packaging and labelling requirements. Participants will receive an organised introduction to the principal compliance areas affecting packaging placed on the EU market.

Topics include substances and materials in packaging, recyclability requirements, minimum recycled-content targets for plastic packaging, labelling obligations, technical documentation, compostable packaging, packaging minimisation, excessive packaging, restricted packaging formats, reusable packaging, and refill systems.

The workshop will also discuss the information that producers and other responsible economic operators may need to provide, the role of an EU Declaration of Conformity, examples of formal non-compliance, and key changes introduced through the new EU packaging regulatory framework. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of how packaging data, supplier evidence, declarations, labels, and supporting documents should be organised.

The training includes an overview of packaging and labelling requirements across Europe and the European Economic Area, including the United Kingdom, Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Türkiye.

The workshop will conclude with an overview of basic marks and labels used on consumer products in the European Union. These may communicate information connected to safety, health, environmental performance, recycling, material identification, and regulatory compliance.

Participants will leave with a more structured understanding of how to identify applicable requirements, collect evidence from suppliers, manage packaging specifications, review artwork and labels, and prepare documentation for different markets.
