Toxic Material Control Act (TSCA) & Section 6 (h)

  • TSCA: US law was enacted in 1976 to regulate the introduction of new or existing chemicals.
  • Administered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • TSCA does not categorize chemicals to toxic and non -toxic but prohibits the manufacture or import of chemicals that are not in TSCA inventory or subject to exceptions.

Part 6 (H) - continuous, bioacumulative and toxic chemicals (Local Authorities).

  • Section 6 (h) is added through Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act in 2016.
  • Focus on local chemicals: remain in the environment, bioakumulation in the body's tissues, has the potential for long -term effects.
  • The EPA needs to take quick action to regulate these chemicals, addressing its risks.
