The Directive on the Restriction of Dangerous Substances (ROHS) is an EU law which restricts the use of certain dangerous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). The following substances are limited:

• Lead (0.1 %)

• Cadmium (0.01 %)
• Hexavalent chrome (0.1 %)
• Polybromed biphenyls (PBB) (0.1 %)
• Polybromed Diphenyl ethers (PBDE) (0.1 %)
• Bis phthalate (2-ethylhexyl) (DEHP) (0.1 %)
• Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP) (0.1 %)
• Dibutyle phthalate (DBP) (0.1 %)
• Disobutyl phthalate (DIBP) (0.1 %)

ROHS applies to the following categories of EEE:

1. Large household appliances
2. Small household appliances
3. IT and telecommunications equipment
4. Consumer equipment
5. Lighting equipment
6. Electric and electronic tools
7. Toys, leisure and sporting equipment
8. Medical devices
9. Monitoring and control instruments, including industrial monitoring and control instruments
10. ATM
11. Other EEE not covered by the above categories

All products with an electrical or electronic component must respect these restrictions, unless they are expressly excluded. 
The products affected by the ROHS directive must carry the CE brand to comply with the ROHS obligations.
