Quick overview of REACH regulations for companies selling items in the EU

Are you a business selling items on the European Union (EU) market? Compliance with REACH regulations is crucial to ensure the safety of human health and the environment. This guide will provide you with a quick overview of the regulations you need to keep in mind.

  1. Determine if your article contains substances that must be registered under REACH: If your article contains a substance intended for release and the quantity of that substance is more than one tonne per year, you must comply with the registration obligations of Article 7(1) of REACH.
  2. Identify substances of very high concern (SVHC) in your article: If your article contains an SVHC in a concentration greater than 0.1% (w/w) and is included in the candidate list of SVHCs requiring authorisation, you must communicate the name of the substance and the safe use instructions to your client under Article 33 of the REACH. In addition, you must submit information on this item in the SCIP database in accordance with the Waste Framework Directive.
  3. Inform the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) if you place articles on the market containing SVHCs: If your article contains SVHC in a concentration greater than 0.1% (w/w) and the amount of the substance per year is more than one tonne, you must inform ECHA in accordance with Article 7(2) of REACH.
  4. Check if your article contains restricted substances: Companies placing articles on the EU market must ensure that these articles do not contain substances subject to restrictions under Annex XVII of REACH.
