Instructions 2012/19/EU on Electrical Waste and Electronic Equipment (WeEe)

Petunjuk 2012/19/EU tentang Limbah Listrik dan Peralatan Elektronik (WEEE)

The final destination of the instructions weee

  • The main purpose of this instruction is to prevent or reduce the adverse effects on the environment arising from the manufacture and handling of Weee, as well as from the use of resources.
  • Weee is a direction, not a regulation, and therefore applied through different local laws in each EU country. This resulted in various compliance challenges related to compliance with the direction of Weee.

Implementation time line

  • February 14, 2014: Transposition deadline: Same as Directive 2002/96/EC Coverage: Same as Directive 2002/96/EC +Panel PV

Starting on August 15, 2018, the scope of this instruction was expanded to cover all EEE, which must now be classified into six categories, not the previous ten categories.

Manufacturer

A number of EU directions use the term "producer" to refer to certain entities that are responsible for introducing products set to the market. The manufacturer is legally responsible to comply with the EU direction, and this responsibility cannot be delegated to other parties or diverted based on the contract.

Official representative

A "official representative" is an exception to the compliance obligations described earlier. If the manufacturer is located outside the EU jurisdiction, it is necessary to appoint local representatives to help fulfill the manufacturer's responsibilities and have someone who is subject to national jurisdiction in the country.

Although there may be differences between EU member countries, the main points are:

  • Product registration based on brand or product category (B2B or B2C).
  • After completing the registration, the unique registration number will be given, which must be included in commercial documents such as invoices and shipping records.
  • Annual or monthly reporting about the amount sold.
  • Recycle.
  • Display of the crossed wheeled trash (symbol weee).

Symbol of marking electrical and electronic equipment (EEE)

The symbol that indicates a separate collection for EEE is depicted with a crushed wheeled trash, as illustrated below. Symbols must be marked clearly, read, and permanently.
