The Weee directive (directive on electrical and electronic devices waste) is EU legislation whose objective is to reduce the negative environmental impact of electronic waste.These are some key points that you need to know about the Weee directive:

AEE categories covered by Weee:

  1. Temperature exchange equipment.
  2. Screens, monitors and equipment containing screens with a surface greater than 100 cm2.
  3. Lamps
  4. Large equipment (any external dimension greater than 50 cm).
  5. Small equipment (without external dimension greater than 50 cm).
  6. Small IT team and telecommunications (without external dimension greater than 50 cm).

Weee Directive Objectives:

  • Producers must register before the national regulation authorities of each EU country in which the product is sold and inform the sales volumes of each type of product.
  • Producers must organize or participate in a AEE collection system at the end of their useful life for objectives of valorization, reuse and recyclability.
  • EEE must be marked with a symbol of the bullshit.
  • Producers must meet the objectives of valorization, reuse and recyclability of the Weee.

Objectives of valorization, reuse and recyclability of the Weee:

  • In the case of the Weee of categories 1 or 4 of Annex III, 85 % will be recovered and 80 % will be prepared for reuse and recycled.
  • In the case of the Weee of Category 2 of Annex III, 80 % will be recovered and 70 % will be prepared for reuse and recycled.
  • In the case of the Weee of categories 5 or 6 of Annex III, 75 % will be recovered and 55 % will be prepared for reuse and recycling.
  • For the Weee of Category 3 of Annex III, 80%will be recycled.
