Last objective of the Weee Directive
- The main objective of the directive is to prevent or reduce adverse environmental impacts derived from the creation and manipulation of Weee, as well as the use of resources.
- Weee is a directive, more than a regulation, and therefore is implemented through different local laws in each EU country. This results in several compliance challenges associated with adhesion to the Weee directive.
Implementation schedule
- August 13, 2012: Input Information Force
- February 14, 2014: Transposition term: as well as that of Directive 2002/96/EC Scope: identical to that of Directive 2002/96/CE +photovoltaic panels
- August 15, 2018: Inclusive scope: The Directive covers all the EEE, with the exception of explicitly excluded articles.
As of August 15, 2018, the scope of the directive was extended to cover all the EEE, which must now be classified into six categories instead of the previous ten.

EEE classifications according to directive Weee 2012/19/EU August 15, 2018.
Passive devices under open scope.
Manufacturer
Several EU directives use the term "manufacturer" to refer to a specific entity responsible for introducing the product regulated in the market. The manufacturer is legally responsible for compliance with the EU directive and this responsibility cannot delegate to others or transfer contractually.
Authorized representative
An "authorized representative" is an exception to the compliance obligation described above. When the manufacturer is located outside an EU jurisdiction, it is necessary to appoint a local representative to help fulfill the manufacturer's responsibility and have a person subject to the national jurisdiction within the country.
While there may be discrepancies between the different EU member states, the main points are:
- Product registration per brand or product category (B2B or B2C).
- At the end of the registration, a unique registration number will be assigned, which must be included in commercial documents such as invoices and Albaranes.
- Annual or monthly report of the amount sold.
- Recycling.
- Visualization of the container with crossed out (the Weee symbol).
